ASUU STRIKE: Academic Staff Union of Universities shuns meeting with FG today

Academic Staff Union of Universities shuns meeting with FG today

Hope of resolving the sixteen-day strike that has brought Nigerian tertiary institutions to a halt was lost today as ASUU refused to attend a meeting scheduled with the Federal Government.

According to ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, the union will not attend the meeting until the government replies to a proposal they submitted.

The Federal Government has been accused by ASUU for negotiating with them alone despite their own welfare demands which have been pending over the years.

Labour and Employment minister, Chris Ngige, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, the General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Peter Ozo-Eson were present at the venue of the aborted meeting.

Ngige added that they are expected to meet again on Wednesday at the NASU Secretariat in Abuja
